‘Barbie’ watch party at Sequim Library location

The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) will host a movie screening of “Barbie” (2023) at libraries in Port Angeles, Sequim and Forks. Adults and teens are welcome to attend the Barbie Watch Party and enjoy free pizza, popcorn and drinks. Attendees are encouraged to dress in pink or as their favorite Barbie, sing along with the film and pose in a life-size Barbie box for a photo op.

The Barbie Watch Party schedule includes:

• 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 19, at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

• 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 26, Sequim Library’s temporary location, 609 W. Washington St.

• 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, Forks Library, 171 S. Forks Ave.

KSQM’s Music in the Park series continues

Sun-Over Static takes the stage at the next Music in the Park series concert set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, at the James Center for Performing Arts at Carrie Blake Community Park, 533 N. Blake Ave.

The free concerts are held in Tuesdays at 6 p.m. though Aug. 27.

Remaining series concerts include: July 30, Kalan Wolfe & The Shift; Aug. 6, Black Diamond Junction; Aug. 13, Joy in Mudville; Aug. 20, The Buck Ellard Band, and Aug. 27, Sound Advice.

The series is sponsored by KSQM 91.5 FM, who also hosts its annual Pet Day Celebration from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, also at Carrie Blake Community Park.

NOLS offering free Zumba classes

The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) is offering free Zumba classes for adults in Sequim and Port Angeles. Teresa Schmid, a Zumba-certified instructor, will teach dance fitness moves to the rhythms of salsa, merengue, cumbia and other music genres.

Participants should wear comfortable clothing (no jeans) and bring a small towel and water. For footwear, wear clean indoor shoes, wear socks or dance with bare feet.

The class meets from 11 a.m.-noon on Saturday, July 20, at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., and 11 a.m.-noon on Saturday, July 27, at The Dance Center by Erica Edwards, 145 E. Washington St., Suite C (Sequim).

The Port Angeles class is in a carpeted area, so smooth-soled shoes without tread are ideal. No street shoes are allowed in the Sequim location.

‘Casablanca’ screening at Olympic Theatre Arts

Olympic Theatre Arts, sponsored by Laurie Stewart and Sound Community Bank, is offering a classic movie series in 2024.

At 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, the series offers “Casablanca” in the Elaine and Robert Caldwell Main Stage Theatre at OTA, 414 N. Sequim Ave. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. for pre-film trivia.

With the whole world crumbling, they picked this time to fall in love. Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman star in this classic masterpiece.

Tickets are $10 and are available at olympictheatrearts.org or by calling the box office (360-683-7326) between 1-4 p.m., Tuesday-Friday.

Future films include “The Breakfast Club” (Sept. 7), “Little Shop of Horrors” (Oct. 5), “Chicago” (Nov. 7) and “The Nightmare Before Christmas” (Nov. 30).

Little Hands’ activities set at library

Children ages 5 and younger, together with their caregivers, can enjoy hands-on play with art materials during the Little Hands Art program offered by the North Olympic Library System.

A session is set for 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, at the Sequim Library temporary location, 609 W. Washington St.

Paint, Play-Doh, glue and other materials are provided to encourage sensory learning through exploration, curiosity, creativity, and tactile engagement. Children should wear clothes that can get artfully messy.
