Author to read novel
Author R. Anne Moore will be reading her newly published novel, “A School for the Dead,” at the Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2781 Towne Road, from 4-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2. She is a professor of education at Willamette University in Salem, Ore. While passing through Sequim, she was inspired by the Dungeness Schoolhouse, which became the setting for this 139-page novel.
Artists needed for MAC show
The Museum & Arts Center in the Sequim Dungeness Valley seeks artists to exhibit work in its August show, “Simply Black and White.” All media accepted. Art must reflect artists’ representation of the theme. Drop off art July 27 between 2-5 p.m. at 175 W. Cedar St. 2-D work must be under 50 pounds, not exceed 40 inches wide, framed and wired for hanging (no saw tooth hangers.) 3-D art over 50 pounds must be pre-approved and placed by artist. Space is limited. Art is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. The show will be on display from July 30-Aug. 30. Entry fees apply. A reception for the artists will be held during First Friday Art Walk on Aug. 1.

Writers, go Fourth
Write, shop up, read and listen — or any combination thereof — at Fourth Friday Readings.
The next session, set for 6 p.m. Friday, July 25, at Rainshadow Coffee Bar, 157 W. Cedar St., is a free event titled “You and Me.” Choose one of three prompts for a five-minute poem or short story: “Next to Nothing,” “Time Out!” or “The Biggest Surprise.” Or, bring any original five-minute open mic reading.

PAFAC extends art contest deadline
The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center has extended the deadline for the Community Paint Out Contest to 4 p.m., Aug. 17. The contest offers more than $700 in award money to be given to winners in 10 different categories. All successfully submitted work is entered into the Paint Out Exhibition at the Port Angeles Landing Mall, Aug. 22-Sept. 14.
Registration forms may be downloaded from the web site at www.paintthepeninsula.org, which has more information about the contest and other events. Entry fee is $5.
American Songbook standards on tap
Special guest vocalist Elinore O’Connell delivers American Songbook standards and retro pop with arrangements by Linda Dowdell, backed by Ted Enderle, Terry Smith and Craig Buhler at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 25, at the Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2781 Towne Road, Sequim.
