‘Surface Tension’ exhibit set at PUB gallery

Ceramic artist Anna Kruse’s solo exhibition, “Surface Tension,” will be on display in Peninsula College’s PUB Gallery of Art March 3–May 12.

Kruse will also host a March 10 Studium Generale presentation online, beginning at 12:30 p.m. via Zoom.

Both the exhibition and the online Studium event are free and open to the public. Join the meeting at pencol-edu.zoom.us/j/82278252780 (meeting ID 822 7825 2780).

“Surface Tension is an exploration of the manifestation of relationships throughout one’s life,” Kruse said. “The impetus of this work is my personal experience with love and loss with my own family, friends, and partners. The relationships of one’s childhood often dictate their attachment style later in life.”

The imagery in her solo exhibition is derived from the defense characteristics in plants, spikes and thistle acting as visual warning cues, synonymous with crossed arms or raised voices, the artist said.

Accordion social set for March 13

The Sequim Accordion Social is set for 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 13, at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St. The featured player will be John Giuliani of Renton.

All accordionists are invited to bring their instruments and play a selection or two. Accordion lovers and dancers are also welcome. A suggested donation of $5 is requested to help with room rental.

Because of COVID, masks are required except when performing. There is a limit of 70 attendees at the Social. Organizers say it is crucial that attendees RSVP; call 360-452-0191 to reserve a seat.

Giuliani is an active musician, playing a variety of venues on the accordion or string bass. He has been a member of the Renton Community Concert Band for 33 years.

Story Slam set

The next Story Slam is set for Friday, March 18, at Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave., promising an evening of stories on the theme “Habits.”

Everyone is invited to drop their name in the bag to share a 5-minute true, personal story on the theme. If an audience member’s name is selected, they are invited on the stage to share.

Door open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 and available online (olympictheatrearts.org) and at the door.

Everyone is welcome to come to listen, event organizers say; there is no pressure to be a teller.

Show organizers are also seeking a volunteer for this event.

Health restrictions may require masks, a vaccine card showing full immunizations 14 days earlier than the event or a negative PCR test from a lab that was done within 72 hours prior to the event.

Save the date for Spring Fest

Spring Fest, a benefit music and poetry event to help Ocean Conservancy — nonprofit environmental advocacy group — is set for 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at Olympic United Universalist Fellowship, 1033 N. Barr Road, Port Angeles.

Health requirements will be observed; if the event is to be held outdoors, participants are encouraged to bring chairs (and umbrellas, if needed).
