SHS band, ballroom dancing, dinosaurs and more headline this week's A&E briefs.

SHS bands in concert

The Sequim High School Band Spring Concert will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 26, in the high school auditorium, 601 N. Sequim Ave. The Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Percussion and Jazz Band will perform.

Ballroom dancing classes set

The next series of ballroom dancer classes at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road in Sequim will begin on Tuesday, March 31. Dance teachers Steve and Ann Johnson will teach beginning night club two-step at 7 p.m. Instructors Darlene and Michael Clemens will teach advanced West Coast Swing at 8 p.m. For more information, contact the Johnsons at lazyjtreefarm@msn or the Clemenses at luivndancin14@yahoo.com or 457-2001.

Dinosaur day at library

At the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 28, the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture in Seattle will present “Discoveries with Dinosaurs,” a special family program for children ages 3-5 that’s all about dinosaurs and other prehistoric life. This free event is the first in a series of Burke Museum programs geared toward children under the age of 5. Additional programming will be offered at the Port Angeles Library on Saturday, April 18, and Saturday, June 6.

Full evening of open mic

Spring arrives this month encouraging Olympic Peninsula writers to bring their best for the March 27 Fourth Friday Readings. An entire evening of 5-Minute Open-Mic readings at Rainshadow Coffee, 157 W. Cedar St., in Sequim, showcases writing talent. Writers are invited to share poems, memoir excerpts and short-short stories.  Arrive at 6 p.m. and sign in for the Open-Mic readings; readings begin at 6:30 p.m. and are timed. Bands needed for Music in Park

The City of Sequim is now accepting applications for bands to perform at the 2015 season of Music in the Park, held on Tuesdays from 6-8 p.m. from June 30-Aug. 25 at the James Center for the Performing Arts in the Water Reuse Demonstration Park. Bands are to submit a press kit that includes a written request to participate and a compact disk (CD) of the group that will perform. Send information to the city clerk, 152 W. Garden art demo set

Sequim Arts will meet at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, March 26, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim. Presenter Kathy Brown will demonstrate how to make garden art out of hypertufa. The public is invited to attend.
