There is no cover charge.

PAFAC to host art workshops

The Port Angeles Fine Art Center (1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd.) is offering three exciting workshops in November. Each workshop offers instruction in a specific art form that will expose participants to a new skill or build their ability in an existing creative process.

The first is “Shadow & Light in Paper Craft,” set for 5-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, with instructor Heather Dawn Sparks. Cost is $45 for center members, $50 for non-members. Register at pafac.kindful.com/e/shadow-light-in-paper-craft.

This workshop will be led by the featured artist of the “Sparks of Connection” exhibition, who will teach paper crafting — an “intuitive flow art” that shifts between the shape being cut out and the space remaining. Participants will create their own design on paper and explore scale using overhead projectors and flashlights to create shadows.

Upcoming workshops include: “Dip Into Gouache,” 5-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, with Anne Pfeiffer; and, “Clay Lanterns,” 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, with Ariel Zimman.

See pafac.org/programs/workshops for more information.

P.E.O. Chapter JC’s 15th-annual Holiday Bazaar is scheduled for 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Sequim Community Church, 950 N. Fifth Ave. All proceeds from the bazaar go to P.E.O. Peninsula libraries to host crossword contest

The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) is hosting crossword puzzle contests in November and December. Teams, each limited to two people, will race to complete three puzzles accurately within two hours. Participants can compete individually, bring a friend, or meet a new teammate at the event.

The contest schedule is: 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Locally Known Cowork, 112 W. Washington St., Sequim; 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.; and 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Forks Library, 171 S. Forks Ave.

Teams will receive the same three crossword puzzles: one “easy” and two “medium” difficulty. Puzzles will be scored for accuracy and winners will be announced by the following Tuesday on the North Olympic Library System’s Facebook page.

If no team completes all three puzzles, the team with the most correct answers will win. The scoring method is based on the official American Crossword Puzzle Tournament (ACPT) scoring rules, with points awarded for correct words, fully complete and correct puzzles, and bonus points based on solution time.

This program is supported in part by Friends of the Library groups.
