Free teen events at Sequim Library
Teens in grades 7-12 can play games, discuss books, create art and work on their creative writing skills with the North Olympic Library System (NOLS). A variety of free activities and snacks are provided at each branch.
The Sequim Library temporary location, 609 W. Washington St., hosts Teen Night from 6-7:30 p.m. the second Friday of each month. Pizza is served and a new activity is featured at every event. Teens will craft a DIY Squishy on Sept. 13 and play tabletop role-playing games on Oct. 11.
The Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., offers a Teen Tuesday program every Tuesday after school from 3:30-4:30 p.m. with alternating topics including book club, creative writing, games and art.
The Teen Advisory Board at each branch is seeking new members. Teens can join to gain leadership skills and earn volunteer hours while helping plan teen events and developing other ways for their peers to enjoy the library. The board meets monthly at the Sequim Library temporary location the first Tuesday of each month throughout the school year. Sign up for TAB at nols.org/tab or by talking with library staff.
Visit nols.org/events to learn more about free activities for teens, email to teens@nols.org or call 360-417-8500.
‘Old time’ jams in Sequim, Chimacum
The Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association meets for a jam session at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept 14, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 Fifth Ave.
The event runs through 2 p.m. and will feature “old time” music — a genre of North American folk music played on acoustic instruments, generally centering on a combination of fiddle and plucked string instruments including the guitar, banjo, mandolin, dobros, dulcimers, auto harps and ukuleles. Community members are welcome to play or just to listen and learn about this traditional style of music.
The group will also host an open jam from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 W. Valley Road, Chimacum.
There is no charge to attend, but donations in support of the association’s youth scholarship program are welcome. Snacks to share are also appreciated.

Auditions set for New Works Showcase
Olympic Theatre Arts (OTA) is looking to once again showcase the works of local authors in its annual New Works Showcase. This year, eight short plays, each about 10 minutes in length, will be produced in the OTA Gathering Hall. Auditions will take place on at 6 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 16-17.
Participants will be asked to read short sides, or pieces, from generic shows. The directors may also ask participants to read a side from the show they are directing.
All roles are open, and program organizers are looking for performers of all genders, ages and types. All levels of experience are welcome.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to be part of the process of bringing plays from the page to the stage,” organizers said. “As each play is short, rehearsal needs are minimal.”
The New Works Showcase runs for two weekends, Nov. 15-24. See olympictheatrearts.org for more information.
