Illustrator offers class; Grisham classic on tap at library; Sequim artists in P.T. exhibit, more

Illustrator offers class

Port Townsend author and award-winning illustrator Jesse Joshua Watson will offer an art class and share tips and tricks of the trade at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St. at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13.

The free program welcomes all ages and encourages participants to pre-register at www.nols.org, in person at the library or by calling the library at 417-8500.

Watson is the author and illustrator of “Hope for Haiti,” and the illustrator of a wide variety of books for young people.


Grisham classic on tap

 

“Skipping Christmas” by John Grisham will be discussed at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. Pre-registration for this program is not required and drop-ins always are welcome. Copies of the book are available at the

Sequim Library in various formats including regular print, large print, audiobook on CD, and downloadable e-book and audio book. To place a hold, visit the library catalog at www.nols.org.

 

Sequim artists in P.T. exhibit

Sequim artists Randy Radock and Marian Morris each had three pieces of art accepted into the Northwind Arts Center Small Expressions 13 juried art exhibit out of over 300 entries.

The exhibit is open in the Arts Center’s new location at 701 Water St., Port Townsend, through Dec. 29. Northwinds Arts Center hours are noon-5 p.m. Thursday-Monday.


Holiday harpist, vocalist perform

First Presbyterian Church of Port Angeles will host harpist Bronn Journey and vocalist Katherine Journey on their Christmas Concert tour at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at the church, 139 W. Eighth St., Port Angeles.

Tickets are $25 and are available at the church office and Necessities and Temptations, 217 N. Laurel St.

Book signing at Hart’s

Hart’s Fine Books, 161 W. Washington St., Sequim, will host author Ardeth De Vries at a book signing from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17. Her book, “Old Dog Haven — Every Old Dog has a Story to Tell,” tells the stories of 35 senior dogs helped by Old Dog Haven’s network of families and she will answer questions about caring for senior dogs.

The book will be available for purchase, with sales benefitting Old Dog Haven, which provides hospice and homes for homeless senior dogs.


Dance party scheduled

Kick start the Second Weekend Art Event in Port Angeles by coming to Bar N9NE (229 W. First St., Port Angeles) on Friday, Dec. 12. The Alternators and Gray Lucier will get the 2FAR dance party going at 8 p.m. Cover charge is $3.


Artisan gifts for the holidays

Artwork from Northwest artists will be available for purchase over the holiday season at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.

Additionally, visit the center’s gift shop for more beautiful hand-crafted items from the local arts community that make unique presents for your loved ones. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday-Sunday.


River Center hosts artist Wyatt

On Friday, Dec. 12, from 1:30-4 p.m., Sequim artist Jean Wyatt will be at the Dungeness River Audubon Center demonstrating the techniques she uses to create her drawings.

She produced the center’s 2015 desk calendar commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Railroad Bridge. Railroad Bridge calendars are $10 and $4 of each purchase goes to support the center’s education programs.

The Dungeness River Audubon Center, in Railroad Bridge Park, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road, in Sequim, is open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and from noon-5 p.m. Saturday. Call 681-4076.


Artisans elect new officers

The Pacific Northwest Wood Artisans has elected its new board officers for 2015-2016. They are Gordon Day, president; Myron Nelson, vice president; Barbara LaRue, secretary; Gene Boggs, treasurer; and Al Popowski, Webmaster.

The group meets at 10 a.m. the second Thursday of the month at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 828 E. Seventh St., Port Angeles.

Watts internationally exhibited

Artistic photographer and Sequim resident Charlotte Watts’ work is being featured in two international galleries.

At the Awagami Paper Factory “Inbe Art Space” — Yoshinogawa City, Tokushima, Japan, four of her prints are on view alongside other world-renowned artists. Watts began printing on Awagami paper in 2010 with her photographic project, “Farewell To Manzanar” featuring current images of the remains of the California Japanese internment camp.
