Pow Wow Comedy Jam at casino; chorale performs Friday; dance at Grange; holiday jazz on tap, more

Wood artisans to meet

The Pacific Northwest Wood Artisans will have its next meeting at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., Port Angeles. Club members promote interest in wood sculpting and carving.

The club meets the second Tuesday in the craft room at the center.

Bluegrass in Forks

The popular Crescent Blue Bluegrass Band will bring its own unique sounds to Peninsula College in Forks at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, when it performs in a free concert at the college site at 481 S. Forks Ave.

Crescent Blue also plays the annual Snowgrass bluegrass benefit in Port Angeles. For more information, contact Peninsula College’s Forks Extension site at 360-374-3223.


Chorale performs Friday

RainShadow Chorale performs “Breaths … when the fire’s voice is heard …” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at Holy Trinity Lutheran, 301 Lopez Ave., Port Angeles. The program is directed by Rebecca Rottsolk and accompanied by Lisa Lanza – piano, with string quartet, guitar, recorder and percussion.

Tickets are available at the door. Suggested donation is $20 adults/$10 ages 10-18.


Pow Wow Comedy Jam at casino

Direct from the Showtime special, “Goin’ Native,” Pow Wow Comedy Jam will return to Seven Cedars Casino at 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15. Featuring Vaughn Eaglebear, Marc Yaffee and Howie Miller, the award-winning Pow Wow Comedy Jam Tour was honored as Nation Indian Gaming Association’s Entertainers of the Year in 2010.

Dance at Grange

The Buck Ellard Band will be playing at a dance from 6-9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road.

The cost is $10 per person, $15 a couple or $25 a family. Children under 12 years of age get in free. Refreshments will be provided.


Holiday jazz on tap

The Peninsula College Jazz Ensemble will usher in the Holiday Season with a pair of concerts Nov. 25 and Dec. 2. Both concerts will be held on the Peninsula College campus in Port Angeles and are free to the public.

The first concert, “Jazz at the PUB,” will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25. The venue for the hour-long concert is the PUB performance stage in the Pirate Union Building. Concert guests are invited to bring their own lunch or buy one at the Pirate Cove Café.

The Peninsula College Jazz Ensemble returns to Maier Performance Hall on Tuesday, Dec. 2, for its fall quarter concert. The performance will begin at 7 p.m. and will include several pieces that will not be a part of the shorter PUB concert.


Studium Generale speaker

Peninsula College’s Studium Generale and the Foothills Writers Series will offer a joint free program at 12:35 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, when Tor Parker speaks in the Little Theater in Port Angeles. Parker is poet and editor of “Tribal Voices: Echo,” an anthology.

Parker will focus on leadership and activism, including camping on Alcatraz during the Indian Occupation, standing with her father on the banks of the Nisqually River during the fishing wars, and the influence of her parents, her family and her community on her life and work.


Shakespeare performances

Oregon Shakespeare Festival actors Keith Leroyal and Eduardo Placer from Ashland, Ore., present two public performances and a workshop at Peninsula College on Thursday, Nov. 20.

The public performances are scheduled for 9:10 a.m. and 12:35 p.m. in the college’s Little Theater on the Port Angeles campus and are free to the public.


Monday Musicale to meet

Monday Musicale will offer public entertainment at Queen of Angels Hall, 209 W. 11th St., Port Angeles, at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17. The musical entertainment will be preceded by a noon meeting for the group.
