William Dietrich reads from his book "The Barbary Pirates: An Ethan Gage Adventure" at 7 p.m. Friday, April 16. Dietrich is a New York Times bestselling author of nine novels. He also is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, historian, naturalist and winner of the Washington State Book Award.

OTA auditions for ‘Bullshot Crummond’
Olympic Theatre Arts auditions for "Bullshot Crummond" will start at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 19, and Tuesday, April 20, with callbacks Wednesday, April 21. OTA is at 414 N. Sequim Ave. Performances are scheduled for June 25-July 18 in OTA’s Caldwell Theater.
The play calls for three female roles, ages 20-50, and three or four male roles, ages 20 on up, all with British and/or German accents. Scripts are available at the OTA office 1-5 p.m. weekdays and at the Sequim and Port Angeles libraries. Call 683-7326.
New Web site
Peninsula Driftwood Artists has a new Web site: www.peninsuladriftwoodartists.org.
It shares the 41-year history of the Peninsula Driftwood Artists and the history of Lucile Worlund, who learned the art form from the Makah.
She then perfected her technique, the LuRon method, and trained others in the Seattle and Olympic Peninsula areas.
The Web site includes a gallery of member artists’ pieces and information about upcoming shows, meetings and classes.
The club hosts its 41st annual Driftwood Show on June 11-13 at the Guy Cole Center at Carrie Blake Park.
Learn about Irish history
Fulbright scholar Dr. Richard McMahon will be at Peninsula College April 14-16. McMahon is a historian of 19th-century Ireland and the Irish diaspora. He has a taught Irish history at universities in Britain and Ireland and currently is the Fulbright scholar in Irish historical studies at Stanford University.
He will present a free public lecture at noon Wednesday, April 14, in the college’s Little Theater, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.
A question-and-answer session follows.
McMahon’s book "Crime, Law and Ireland, 1700-2006" will be published in 2013.
Great Decisions discussion group
"Transnational Crime – Globalization’s Shadowy Stepchild" is the subject of Sequim Great Decisions Discussion Group’s meeting 10 a.m.-noon Friday, April 16, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.
Discussion topics are taken from the Foreign Policy Association’s "Great Decisions 2010" publication and current articles in "Foreign Affairs" magazine.

Water crisis documentary
"Flow," director Irena Salina’s award-winning documentary investigation on water, will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday, April 23, in the Peninsula College Little Theater, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.
The film explores the world water crisis and builds a case against the growing privatization of the world’s dwindling fresh water supply. It focuses on politics, pollution, human rights and the emergence of a domineering world water cartel.
A short discussion led by faculty members Barbara Blackie and Bruce Hattendorf follows the film.
Admission is $5 or $1 with a current Peninsula College student I.D.

Soloist for the Vivaldi piece is Jo Dee Ahmann.
