Learn marketing arts
Sequim Humanities and Arts Alliance’s Cultural Connections meets from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at The Lodge at Sherwood Village media room, 660 W. Evergreen Farm Way.
Cultural Connections provides lectures, workshops and performances to enhance education, exploration and professionalism in the arts and humanities.
Saturday’s program is "The Workshop Beyond Networking – The Power of Social Media with Burning Down The House Creative Collective." It will focus on using social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, LinkedIn and Second Life for marketing.
Friends of the Library
holds annual meeting
The annual meeting of the Friends of the Sequim Library will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim.
Business will be end-of-year reports and the election of a new president and treasurer.
Dr. Murray Hayes of
Sequim will talk about first-person accounts of early western United States history.
Refreshments will be served.
MAC to reopen soon
The Museum and Arts Center, 175 W. Cedar St., is closed for renovations. It is scheduled to reopen Jan. 15 with a new longhouse exhibit built in conjunction with the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe.
The first exhibit in the longhouse will be about the Hoh River and comes from the Burke Museum at the University of Washington. This exhibit will be complemented by the work of three area artists working in basketry, woodcarving and carved bone pendants.

Te-whit-zen author
Seattle Times reporter Lynda Mapes, author of "Breaking Ground," the story of the unearthing of Tse-whit-zen village in Port Angeles, will be the featured presenter at Peninsula College’s Studium Generale program on Thursday, Jan. 21.
The program will begin at 12:35 p.m. in the college’s Little Theater, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles. It will be followed by a reception in the Peninsula College Longhouse House of Learning.
Both events are free.
Sweet Adelines
soft-serve serenade
Grand Olympics Chorus of Sweet Adelines International will be at Sequim Dairy Queen, 720 W. Washington St., from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27. The members will serenade patrons eating a meal or ice cream.
A portion of the evening’s proceeds will be donated to the chorus.
Symphony concerts
The Port Angeles Symphony presents chamber music concerts Jan. 15 and Jan. 16. The concerts include music by Benda, Parry, Vanhal, Hindemth and Mozart. Both concerts begin at 7:30 p.m.
On Friday, Jan. 15, the concert will be at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 Lopez Ave., Port Angeles.
On Saturday, Jan. 16, the concert will be at Sequim Worship Center, 640 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim.

Olympic Peninsula Enological Society presents Casting a Long Shadow, a winemaker’s dinner at C’est Si Bon restaurant on Jan. 22, featuring Gilles Necault of Long Shadows Vintners and Joe Euro entertaining on guitar.
