Community Art Project at festival
The Sequim Arts Commission (SAC), in partnership with the Sequim Irrigation Festival Innovative Arts Fair, will host the Community Art Project booth on Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, May 4 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Carrie Blake Community Park.
The Community Art Project booth will offer three fun art activities for public participation, including a large-scale participatory coloring project, button pin making, and T-shirt upcycling.
Fair goers will be invited to create their own tiny wearable piece of art by creating a button pin using scrap and recycled paper, and bring an old T-shirt to upcycle by redesigning it onsite. Members of the SAC will be on-site to assist participants with their creations and upcycled redesigns.
Necessary crafting tools will be provided, as well as T-shirt upcycling ideas. Please bring your own T-shirt to upcycle.
Celebrate Children’s Day
The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) invites children and their families to celebrate Dia del Nino (Children’s Day) at a free event at the Sequim Library’s temporary location, 609 W. Washington St., from 3-4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30. There will be games, Mexican treats and prizes.
Since 1925, this an annual celebration throughout Mexico has celebrated children, recognizing their importance in society, and promoting their well being.
After learning about Mexico’s tradition of celebrating April 30 as el Dia del Nino, children’s book author Pat Mora helped create a new holiday in the United States — Children’s Day/Book Day — emphasizing the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
Comedic murder mystery
The Port Angeles Community Players (PACP), 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd., will present a comedic murder mystery from May 2-18.
Based on a classic board game and a beloved 1980’s film, this live stage adaptation invites the audience to step into the world of secretive suspects, clever plot twists and hilarious mayhem. Six guests are anonymously invited under alias names to a strange mansion for dinner, but after their host is killed, they must cooperate with the staff to identify the murderer as the bodies pile up.
Friday, Saturday and Tuesday performances are at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday performances are at 2 p.m. Sold out performances are expected.
Tickets are $18 for adults, $9 for students. On Tuesday nights, any remaining tickets are $9 at the door.
Purchase tickets online at pacommunityplayers.org or at the box office 30 minutes before each performance. There is no intermission, so come early to get concessions from the bar.
