Ron Graham, director for Olympic Theatre Arts zany musical “Something’s Afoot,” will hold auditions at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, and again at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, in the Gathering Hall at the OTA Center, 414 N. Sequim Ave. Actors may bring a headshot and a resumé, if available.
There are 10 roles available for what Graham calls an “unusual, usual British murder mystery.”
The roles include:
• The Saucy Maid
• The Caretaker with the wandering eye … and hands
• The Stuffy Butler
• The Ingénue with the everlasting sunny disposition
• The Family Doctor
• The Dissolute Nephew who may (or may not) inherit everything
• The Pretentious Grande-Dame who may (or may not) inherit everything
• The Old Army Man who may or may not shoot everything
• The Tweedy Amateur Detective who may not solve everything (but she’s never wrong)
• The Unexpected Guest.
The Ingénue and the Unexpected Guest are younger than the others, but ages for the entire cast vary and can range from 18-80.
“All roles are comedic caricatures who say the most ridiculously funny things, but never laugh at themselves. That’s the audience’s job,” Graham says.
All are singing roles, as well, and require a British accent or a close facsimile thereof.
And, Graham, adds, “All roles require having a bit of fun, often at their own expense.”
All those who audition will sing first. An accompanist will be provided, however be sure to bring sheet music (in your key). Or those auditioning may choose to sing with a tape or a cappella.
A simple dance routine will be taught, so Graham suggests dressing comfortably.
A comedic monologue of no more than two minutes in length may be performed, but is not required for the audition.
