It seems Dwight “Buc” Keene isn’t quite done with his kind of western tale.
The Sequim author just released his third book in “The Kind of Western I’d Like to Read” series called “Desire Realized.”
“I’ve just got too much to tell,” Keene said.
Book three continues the journey of hero Colt Saber after a cliffhanger in book two “Hope Deferred.”
It splits into three concurrent story lines following Saber, his love Suzanne and his brother Sonny through the American Southwest in 1869.
Keene doesn’t want to give too much away but did say Saber is believed dead, so Suzanne tries to start anew while he tries to work his way back to her.
“Book three is mostly his journey back into the picture,” Keene said. “When he gets back into the picture, it’s another cliff hanger. People are going to be very surprised at the end of book three.”
In the 500-plus page book, Keene said there is a tremendous amount of drama, action and romance with a lot of new but rich and well-developed characters.
Keene hasn’t quite finished book four, which is still unnamed, but he is still on track to end the series where he intended.
The series was supposed to be a trilogy but Keene had enough material for a four-part-series.
“It’s actually exceeding my expectations,” he said. “It’s taking on a much bigger dynamic than I imagined.”
Keene, a native Washingtonian, got into the ranching life for a career after a time in insurance. He lived in Quincy for 16 years ranching before moving back to the Sequim area to transport and sell hay for his Eastern Washington Hay Co. He also operates Sequim U-Haul and now Hertz car rentals.
