Backyard Birding series details ‘Spring Gardening for Birds’

“Spring Gardening for Birds,” the sixth in the series of 10 classes in Backyard Birding, is scheduled for 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, March 11, at the Dungeness River Audubon Center, Railroad Bridge Park, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road, Sequim.

Joe Holtrop, executive director of the Clallam Conservation District, presents aspects of a bird-friendly yard, including food, water and shelter, with emphasis on the use of plants native to this area.

Following the class there will be an optional field trip to see native plants and where they are growing.

This presentation is offered by the Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society. Families and individuals are invited to attend any or all of the sessions. There is a $5 fee for each class for those older than 18. After five sessions are attended, a free, one-year membership in OPAS will be offered to participants.
