Paul Roy, director of music and organist at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church on Bainbridge Island, brings his talents to Sequim for the monthly Music Live with Lunch concert series this February.
He’ll perform some classical music such as “Tuba Tune in D Major” by Craig Sellar-Lang and the prelude from “Prelude, Fugue &Variation” by César Franck at noon, Tuesday, Feb. 21, in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave.
Roy is recognized as a classic organist throughout the Pacific Northwest and hails from Massachusetts where he won many competitions and started his career as a music director in the Episcopal Church.
He received his bachelor of music degree in liturgical music and organ performance from the Hartt School of Music of the University of Hartford and his Master of Arts degree in organ performance from Clark University in Worcester, Mass.
He’s performed across the United States including St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City and the Church of the Advent and Church of the Covenant in Boston.
Roy has served in many roles in Washington including asassociate organist at Seattle’s St. James Cathedral from 1994-1998 and St. Cecilia’s Church on Bainbridge Island from 1992-2000.
Roy founded the Bainbridge Island Women’s Schola and was director from 1992-1997 and he’s presented workshops on church music for the American Guild of Organists and many others.
He’s served in his roles at St. Barnabas since 1991.
Following the 30-minute show, a Russian beef stroganoff and a vegetarian pasta alternative are served in the parish hall.
Music Live with Lunch began as the vision of Lou and Bill Yandell as a musical outreach to the community with proceeds benefiting local concerns. Concerts run the third Tuesday of each month through May in the church sanctuary with a hot meal afterward. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased in advance or at the door.
