Bike the US for MS arrives in Sequim

The Sequim MS (multiple sclerosis) Support Group in June continued its tradition of welcoming riders from the Bike the US for MS organization as they began a Ride Around the Peninsula.

The riders were set to cover 361 miles in seven days, conquering a total elevation challenge of 20,548 feet as they started and ended in Seattle after looping the Olympic Peninsula.

Members of the Sequim MS Support group include Jill Osborn, Diane Reaves, Kisuri St. Claire and Susan Hedding, who met with the 12 Bike the US for MS riders and three support team members.

Three of the riders this year are multi-generations of a single family. The father, Richard Davies, from Portland, Oregon, began his rides with two cross-country events. In 2016, he encouraged his son, Michael Davies, to join on rides and this year Michael encouraged his daughter, Jordyn Davies to ride this Peninsula Ride as her first ride with Bike MS. The siblings are also from Portland.

Others along for the ride included Todd Bartholomay, Kimberly Malesky, Duncan Moore, Karen Peitz-Eberle, Cass Rosswog, Bruce Spital, Todd Whitlow, Amanda Williams and Ted Yates.

Bike MS raises more money than any other cycling event for any other cause — looking to change the world for people with MS one mile at a time. Since 2007, riders have raised more $3.3 million by pedaling around the U.S.

Locally, the organization has donated more than $200,000 to the MS Center at Swedish Neuroscience Institute in Seattle.
