The Port Angeles Symphony Chamber Orchestra presents “An Evening with the Brothers Haydn” on Jan. 14 in Port Angeles and Jan. 15 in Sequim.

Musicians

Southard-Dean studied violin and viola at Whitman College where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in music. That same year she attended the Congress of Strings at the University of Washington.

For the past 21 years, Southard-Dean has been concertmaster and assistant concertmaster of the Port Angeles Symphony and Chamber orchestras and has performed with chamber ensembles on the peninsula.

Thompson is a native of the upper Midwest. He attended Interlochen National Music Camp in Michigan and performed with the community symphony orchestra in Eau Claire, Wis.

He studied English, music and English literature at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., the University of Utah and the University of London.

He’s taught in central Utah and at Peninsula College. Thompson is a longtime player in the Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra and principal cellist. He is active as an area recitalist and chamber musician.

Adam Stern, music director of the Port Angeles Symphony and the Seattle Philharmonic, was accepted at age 15 to California Institute of the Arts. He graduated in 1977, at age 21, with a Master of Fine Arts degree in conducting. In 1990, Stern won a Grammy Award for “Classical Producer of the Year,” on his work with Gerard Schwarz and the Seattle Symphony. 

Stern was the associate conductor of the Seattle Symphony from 1996-2001 and collaborated with artists James Taylor, Judy Collins and Art Garfunkel.

A pianist, Stern has been featured as a soloist and chamber musician with the Seattle Symphony and the Northwest Chamber Orchestra.
