Club of the week

Great Decisions Discussion Group

This group sits in a circle, making it easy to bounce ideas, which is what the 15-20 members do.

They share their ideas, personal experience, history, knowledge and beliefs on foreign policy-related topics. A moderator opens the topic with some background information and issues to consider. At the May 21 meeting, about half the group spoke.

The ground rules are simple: It’s a discussion, not a debate; speakers address the group, not individuals; the discussion will be amiable, non-judgmental and all are welcome to contribute.

Before the discussion begins, introductions are made and short follow-ups may be offered to previous discussions.

The group meets from 10 a.m.-noon the first and third Fridays at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

The topic for June 4 is "The Nukes We Need – Preserving the American Deterrent." Suggested background reading is the Nov./Dec. 2009 issue of Foreign Affairs magazine.
