Events/drama/recreation

• City of Sequim open house, seeking input on the development of Centennial Place; 3-5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, in the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St. Online survey available throughout January at sequimwa.gov.

• Olympic Theatre Arts youth workshop, begins Jan. 8. Learn about all aspects of theater while preparing for a performance of “Charlotte’s Web.” Performances set for Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 20-21. Rehearsals are 3-6 p.m. Monday-Friday, Jan. 8-12, and 3-6 p.m. Monday-Friday, Jan. 15-29. The ensemble of third-, fourth- and fifth-graders are from 3-4:30 p.m., while those in grades 6-12 and leads in grades 3-5 rehearse 3-6 p.m. Tuition is $120 per student, with $10 for additional siblings. for long-time artist Carol Janda, who after 19 years of membership and participation in the gallery is moving to Issaquah to be near family. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Saturday, and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sundays.

• Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society Backyard Birding series: “Native Plants for Better Backyard Birding,” 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Jan. 6, in Rainshadow Hall at the Dungeness River Nature Center, 1943 W. Hendrickson Road. Kathy and Matt McCoy from the Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society and Master Gardeners Gary Brundige and Lorraine Eckard will discuss the importance of using native plants and seeds, providing water features, attracting pollinators, and controlling invasive vegetation to meet the year-round needs of birds. • Tidepools, Peninsula College’s annual literary arts magazine featuring art, photography, writing and music created by the people of the North Olympic Peninsula, is accepting submissions. Youth entries are $5, adult entries are $7.50, and students currently enrolled at Peninsula College can enter the contest for free.
