A documentary feature film by former Peninsula College student and soccer player Adam Kunz will be screened May 13 at 2:30 pm in the college’s Little Theater on the main campus in Port Angeles. The showing is part of the Magic of Cinema film series.
“Mike’s Migration” is about Kunz’s father and was developed and produced as Kunz’s senior film project at Dixie State University in St. George, Utah. “Mike’s Migration” made its television debut on Alaska Public Television and won the award for Best Alaskan Film at the 2013 Anchorage International Film Festival.
The documentary also received the award for Best Documentary Feature length film at the 2013 Weyauwega International Film Festival in Wisconsin and was the Official Selection and nominated for best student documentary and audience choice award at the Docutah Film Festival in St. George.
The film follows the story of Mike, who had always dreamed of going to Alaska. After 12 years at a dead-end job, he met a woman and fell in love and the two embarked on a journey that finally lead to their being able to live the life of their dreams. Kunz says he grew up working for his father at Mike’s Welding, a family metal fabricating business located in Sterling, Alaska. It was there that Kunz’s passion for Alaska was ignited.
On his website, Kunz says: “I became extremely passionate about Alaska, and the beauty and recreational opportunity it has to offer. That’s where film production came into my life. I thought what better way to enjoy the Alaskan outdoors than to re-live and re-visit adventurous Alaskan experiences with beautiful high definition video and photographs.”
“Mike’s Migration” was shot with a Canon 7D, 5D mark ii and a mark iii.
Today, Kunz is continuing his day job as a welder/fabricator while he works on building his own production company. He specializes in Alaskan outdoor videography and photography.
Admission to the film is $5 general and free to students with student IDs.
