Animal blessing set at TUMC

A blessing-of-the-animals service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, outside Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave.

Pets on a leash or in a carrier are welcome. For animals that have died, a picture may be shown or the pet’s name mentioned, and a prayer of remembrance will be offered.

Pastor Desi Larson will lead the service. Each pet will get a St. Francis Blessing Medallion.

The concept of blessing animals, event organizers note, was introduced nearly 800 years ago by St. Francis of Assisi to illustrate that humans are only one of the many creations of God and that all are blessed in God’s eyes.
