Spring blooms with bright flowers and hopeful spirits as April’s First Friday Art Walk Sequim on April 7 bursts with pink as the theme color that represents supportive strength, comforting assurance, sweet delight, productive promises and encouragement. Find works of art and folks supporting the option to dress in all spring shades of pink from strong burgundy to soft blush for the evening out on the town.

First Friday Art Walk Sequim is a fun and free self-guided tour of local art venues in Sequim on the First Friday of every month from 5-8 p.m. Visit online at SequimArtWalk.com to download and a map, find special events and links, and learn how to be part of art. Its mission is to create approachable and accessible art and cultural venues that encourage the community to connect and celebrate expression and diversity.

Initiated in 2006, this educational arts event is sponsored and produced by unique as you/Renne Emiko Brock. Special events

• It’s time for BirdFest BirdQuest! Play this fun free game, a Sequim Merchant Group event sponsored by the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce, taking place in 20 of Sequim’s businesses and promoting the Olympic Peninsula BirdFest. Find the bird sculptures created by Jake Reichner’s Sequim High School ceramics class and match them to the business that you find them in. Game cards are available at each participating merchant. The grand prize is a “Bird’s-Eye View of Sequim” plane ride to Port Townsend and back with Emily Westcott, plus one year’s membership to the Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society.

Turn in your game cards at the Sequim Chamber at 1192 E. Washington St. by 4 p.m. Saturday, April 8. The drawing for the winner is at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 9, at the Dungeness River Audubon Center, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road, Sequim, and you need not to be present to win. • The 2016 National Avian Photographs exhibition, awarded by the National Audubon Society, is at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St., Sequim, is the only location in the western states to host this collection of photographs. Meet grand prize winner Bonnie Block of Gig Harbor from 5-7 p.m. April 7. Also, visit the Peeps Diorama Exhibit sponsored by Sequim’s City Arts Advisory Commission and vote for the “Peeples” Choice Award, on exhibit through April 14. The Peeps Diorama Exhibit is part of a national trend of art shows using the popular marshmallow candy to a create tableau or scene.

• Olympic Theatre Arts presents the Discovery Bay Pirates Reunion from 5:30-7 p.m. at 414 N. Sequim Ave., with the quartet playing Irish pub songs, sea shanties and other folk music. Admission is free. At 7:30, OTA will stage its production of “Over the River and Through the Woods.”

• Blue Whole Gallery, 129 W. Washington St., presents “Just me! Plants and Animals” with featured 2-dimensional artist and art teacher Mary Franchini and 2- and 3-dimensional artist Barbara Neswald.

• Sunshine Café, 145 W. Washington St., art of Mary Leone Howard featuring five, charcoal and graphite drawings of the Sequim elk herd.

• Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., artist Shirley Mercer; live music of duo Bread &Gravy.

• The Museum and Arts Center, 175 W. Cedar St., exhibition of Stan Green’s quilts. The exhibition of quilts representing the progression of his styles over 16-plus years.

• R&T Crystals and Beads, 158 E. Bell St., jewelry demonstrations with Paulette Hill and Gail McLain.

Other exhibits

The Gallery at 5th Avenue presents “No Limits” exhibition from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, April 9. Artist Carol Wilhelm experiments with new subjects, new techniques and new styles. She has had a lifelong interest in all forms of art, enjoying a wide variety of arts and crafts mediums including stained glass, silk painting, rug-making, knitting, crochet, sewing, collage and driftwood sculpture. Painting with the North Olympic Watercolorists, her primary focus is watercolor but the gallery also will display one-of-a-kind Nuno-felted scarves, wall panels and table runners.

To create inclusion between venues, artists and audience, everyone is encouraged to participate in the Art Walk’s monthly themes as a fun community activity in any creative form they wish to express it. January is silver, February is red, March is green, April is pink, May is aqua, June is white, July is purple, August is yellow, September is blue, October is orange, November is brown and December is gold.
