Five to vie for Clallam Fair royalty court

A quintet of candidates are vying for the titles of queen and princesses to represent our county fair.

Clallam County Fair Royalty candidates for the 2025 event include Keira Headrick of Sequim, Julianna Getzin, Jayla Olson and Nicole Tyler of Port Angeles, and Aliya Gillett of Forks.

A bake sale fundraiser for Clallam County Fair Royalty program will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, at Forks Outfitter, starting at 9:30 am.

The royalty coronation is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, in the exposition building at the Clallam County Fairgrounds, 1608 W. 18th St., Port Angeles; it is open to the public and free of charge.

About the candidates

Tyler is a 17-year-old senior at Port Angeles High School and a student at Peninsula College Running Start. Her parents are Joe and Shana Tyler. Her sponsors are Fogtown Coffee Bar and Nicholas Worley Trucking Inc. At Peninsula College, she is in the criminal justice program. She said she will also pursue an early childhood degree to earn a teaching degree. Tyler is busy with Nubian goats, ducks, chickens, turkeys and cattle. Her hobbies are welding, reading, crafting and jewelry. She volunteers as a teachers aid at Joyce Hope Academy and volunteers with the AWANA program. Nicole’s platform is AWANA.

Olson is a 17-year-old junior at Port Angeles High School and a student at Peninsula College’s Running Start. Her parents are Melissa and J.C. Olson. Her sponsors are Leitz Farm Supply and Hermann Brothers Logging and Construction. She enjoys softball and volleyball and is in the Thespian Society. Where she use to live, Olson participated in 4H. She plans are to attend a cosmetology school and obtain her license. Later she would like to earn her bachelor’s degree in business as she wishes to have her own salon. Jayla’s platform is down syndrome.

Getzin is a 16-year-old junior at Port Angeles High School. Her parents are Wendy Clark-Getzin and Daniel Getzin. Her sponsors are Fog Horn Olive Oil and Co., Odyssey Bookshop, and Grocery Outlet of Port Angeles. Julianna is in the Marine Biology Club, HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) and the Key Club. She is a violist in the Sequim Community Orchestra. Along with music, her hobbies are sewing, reading, biking and hiking. Getzin enjoys playing varsity tennis and bowling at her high school. She plans on attending either Johns Hopkins University or University of Washington to pursue a master’s in science and apply for pre-med and become a family physician. Her platform is cancer awareness.

Headrick is a 14-year-old freshman at Port Angeles High School but lives in Sequim. Her parents are Scott and Stephanie Headrick. Her sponsors are A.P.S. Electrical Contractor Inc., Coldwell Banker Uptown Realty -Sarah Forshaw, The Coffee Cottage, Johnson Creek Veterinary Service-J. David Kirner, DVM., Security Services, Zenovic and Associates and The Other Guys Auto and Travel Center. Headrick enjoys softball and participates in the North Olympic Baseball and Softball Senior Softball League, and volleyball in the Port Angeles volleyball team. She would like to graduate from a university with a master’s degree in criminal justice and mathematics. Her platform is Clallam County Child Advocate Program.

Gillett is a 17-year-old senior at Forks High School and a student at Peninsula College’s Running Start. Her parents are Craig and Tracy Gillett. Her sponsors are Triple S. Contracting LLC, Evergreen 76/Subway Forks, and Forks Elks Lodge #2524. Gillett is currently a 2024 Clallam County Fair Royalty Princess. She is active in her drama club, cheer, track and field and is a captain of her soccer team. She is a member of The National Society of High School Scholars, High School National Honor Society and Peninsula College National Honor Society, and is involved in the associated student council at Peninsula College. Gillett recently was accepted at Central University at Ellensburg, where she plans on earning her master’s degree and becoming a High School math teacher. Her platform is the Forks Clothing Bank-Gingers Closet.
