Peninsula College’s Magic of Cinema film series screens “Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars,” about a group of musicians displaced by the country’s civil war, on April 26. (The musicians themselves will appear at the Juan de Fuca Festival of the Arts over the Memorial Day Weekend.)

Four films in the series are part of the Raymond Carver Festival, a celebration of the noted short story writer and poet who lived in Port Angeles the last 10 years of his life.

“Jindabyne” (May 10) stars Laura Linney and Gabriel Byrne in an adaptation of a Carver story. On May 14, the screening of the PBS documentary “To Write and Keep Kind: a Portrait of Raymond Carver” includes a question/answer session with the director, Jean Walkinshaw.

Director and associate producer Mike Kaplan will answer questions at the screening of “Luck, Trust & Ketchup: Robert Altman in Carver Country” (May 16) as well as the showing of “Short Cuts” (May 17), Altman’s adaptation of Carver short stories.

All films start at 7 .pm. in the Peninsula College’s Maier Performance Hall, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd. General admission is $5, free with a student ID.
