Free Clinic sets annual fundraising walk, health fair for Aug. 10

This annual fundraiser is a real walk in the park — literally.

The Dungeness Valley Health & Wellness Clinic, also known as The Sequim Free Clinic, hosts its 17th Fun Walk and Health Fair, starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, starting and finishing at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 Blake Ave., and using the Olympic Discovery Trail through the adjacent Carrie Blake Community Park.

The event is the clinic’s sole fundraiser. Registration begins at 8 a.m.

The Fun Walk has two options: a 5k (3.1-mile) route, and a 1-mile course. All pets are welcome but must be leashed during the walk.

Community members are encouraged to gather up, family and co-workers to form a team and compete for “Top Fundraising Champions” (the team who raises the most money) and/or “Biggest Step Team” (the team with the most walkers).

After the walk, attendees are encouraged to visit the Health Fair. Get to “know your numbers” by participating in free screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar and oxygen saturation, familiarize one’s self with an AED (automated external defibrillator) and explore a variety of health and wellness information and services provided by local service providers. (Note: While pets are not allowed inside the building, event organizers will have pet-sitters available.

All proceeds support the Dungeness Valley Health & Wellness Clinic, an organization that offers basic urgent care and chronic medical care for the uninsured and under-insured in the community. The clinic operates two Basic Urgent Care clinics per week and three to four Chronic Health Care clinics per month, at 777 N. Fifth Ave.

This event is free to all, and while donations are welcome they are not required, clinic representatives said.

For more information about the event or to get a team packet, call Sara Nicholls at 360-582-2976.

In 2024, the clinic has already seen a 17% increase in patient visits compared to last year, with 62% of those new patients, clinic representatives said.

Donations help the clinic continue providing these essential services, including emergency dental care, vision care vouchers and monthly health education forums through its Working on Wellness (WOW!) program.
