Featuring a slew of top local musicians, the Peninsula College Jazz Ensemble invites community members of all ages to two free concerts next week.
Both concerts are free and take place at Peninsula College’s Port Angeles campus at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
A mid-day concert is scheduled for noon on Tuesday, Aug. 6 in the Pirate Union Building (PUB), with food available for purchase at the PUB Market & Deli.
A Summer Jazz Concert is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8, in Maier Performance Hall, featuring instrumental performances by the band under the direction of Marge Rosen with singer Robin Eaves from Joyce. The program will include classic and modern jazz from a wide variety of composers such as George Gershwin, Count Basie, Thad Jones, John Coltrane, Henry Mancini, Chuck Mangione and Seattle composer Daniel Barry.
The college ensemble’s performers represent some of the best jazz instrumentalists on the North Olympic Peninsula. Musicians from Sequim are Nancy McPherson on trumpet, John Wetherill on piano, Jamie Porter on acoustic bass, Vern Sielert on electric bass; Keith Boll and Jeff Fox on saxophones; and Jeff Dingle, Cliff Brown, and Tom Hartig on trombone.
Musicians from Port Angeles are Jim Bradbury and Larry Madsen on trumpet, and conductor Rosen on drums, and from Port Townsend is John Adams on alto sax and bass clarinet.
