Headlining the evening is Corey Rodrigues, a nationally renowned comedian, who has performed on a variety of cable television shows, was the 2011 winner of the Funniest Comic in New England contest, and a semifinalist in the Boston Comedy Festival. Rodrigues also recently starred in an independent film “Business Is War,” a comedy directed by the late Kemal Gordon.

The evening will also feature a brief appearance by Peninsula College head coaches, Alison Crumb, Kanyon Anderson, and Mitch Freeman, as well as Athletic Director Rick Ross. They will share stories about Pirate Athletics in 2014-15. Supporters can also look forward to a testimony from a student-athlete.

KONP Radio personality Scooter Chapman will serve as master of ceremonies.

“This is our third annual Pirate Casino Night, and the event has become very popular,” Ross said. “Mitch Freeman, Tim Tucker and a committee of Pirate Athletic Association members have done a tremendous job organizing this party. It promises to be a great night―and honestly it’s a great value for our supporters. In addition to supporting our program, people are getting a national-caliber comedy show that doesn’t involve an overnight trip to Seattle, an incredible dining experience, and an opportunity to bid on some great auction items.”

Admission to the event also includes the opportunity for participants to ride in the Black Pearl, the Peninsula College bus, to and from the event. It will depart from the Red Lion Hotel on the waterfront at 5:15 p.m. and return at 10 p.m.

The Red Lion, meanwhile, plans to offer a pre-event party in the Crab House Lounge from 3-5:15 p.m. with “buy one, get one” appetizer rates and happy hour pricing, as well as a special hotel rate of $89 for non-view rooms and $109 for water view rooms for Casino Night participants. Call 452-9215 for reservations.

The event is sponsored by 7 Cedars Casino, First Federal, Swain’s, Angeles Machine Works, High Energy Metals and Windermere Real Estate.

“We have so many great sponsors, as well as individual Athletic Association members, and without them, we wouldn’t have a successful athletic program,” Ross said. “Seven Cedars, particularly, is providing the food and drinks, and rolling out the red carpet in their Casino for us. Their contribution to athletic scholarships at Peninsula is truly remarkable, and allows your ticket purchase to go directly to student-athletes.
