Doing the time warp for a third year, the Snappy Players, actors with Mosaic, formerly known as SNAP, bring to stage “The Battle between Funk and Disco.”

The dance and musical production showcases KSNAP, the 1950s radio station variety show, at a live broadcast unexpectedly time traveling to the 1970s in the middle of a battle between two nightclubs, Funky Town and Cloud 9. The play includes 14 students, who created their own plot, involving a lot of improvisation, plenty of singing and dancing and some of their favorite songs, such as “Ball of Confusion,” and “Kung-Fu Fighting.”

Along for the ride, Detective Dirk McGrier, played by Mosaic participant Jess McNeil, helps the group solve a number of issues: How do they get back to the 1950s? Where is the missing disc jockey from last year’s play, “Case of the Missing Dog?”

McNeil said people would definitely laugh at the play.

“For a bunch of amateur people, a lot of talent comes out of here,” he said.

“When it quits being fun, I’ll quit playing them.”

The high-energy and humorous adventures build suspense about whether the KSNAP characters will find their way home and whether they’ll learn the moves to “Funky Town.”
