Girl Scouts make, deliver pillows for kitties

Girl Scout Troop 45181 recently completed its service project to make and deliver 40 cat pillows for cats awaiting adoption at Kitty City in Carlsborg.

“While it might seem like a small gesture, it brought so much joy to the girls and we hope will bring comfort and love to the kitties waiting for their forever homes,” said troop leader Heidi Krzyworz.

The effort helped younger scouts earn the Pets badge, which includes keeping a pet comfortable by making a pet bed for a cat or dog, Krzyworz said.

Earlier this year, the troop delivered up-cycled cat scratchers made out of Girl Scout cookie boxes.

Krzyworz said during that visit, they learned a pet pillow project hadn’t been finished by another group, despite most of the materials being donated, so the scouts gladly accepted the project.

“Over the next several months, we worked on the pillows during troop meetings and at our summer camping trip,” she said.

The project also tied into another badge as the pillows involved knot-tying, Krzyworz said, but their primary motivation was to help Kitty City when they had a need.

“It was a meaningful experience for all of us, and we were glad we could make a difference for the kitty cats,” she said.
