Hear about ‘Supporting Science through Story’ at Science Café on March 10

Powell Jones, Director of the Dungeness River Audubon Center at Railroad Bridge Park, presents “Supporting Science through Story” at the next at the next Sequim Science Café, set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, at Paradise Restaurant, 703 N. Sequim Ave.

Jones has worked with thousands of students over the last 18 years, developing a sense of place through meaningful place-based outdoor education on the North Olympic Peninsula.

The Olympic Peninsula and the Dungeness River are home to unique restoration projects that are models for other watersheds. The Elwha dam removal, Dungeness floodplain restoration, engineered logjams, the Jimmy Come Lately Creek restoration, are all outstanding examples of science in action.

Join Jones as he discusses the intersections of science, environmental restoration, outdoor interpretation, and the importance of community-based organizations such as the Dungeness River Audubon Center in developing personal stories that can be enthusiastically shared with each other.

The event is sponsored by the Sequim Education Foundation, a “proud supporter of STEM education in the Sequim School District and all donations go directly to purchasing materials and assisting our students with furthering their STEM studies.”

The Science Cafe meets on the second Tuesday of every month except July and August, from 6:30-7:30 pm. Those planning to eat are encouraged to come early (5:30-6 p.m.); seating is limited.
