High school art on display at Sequim Civic Center

The High Schools of the Olympic Peninsula Creative Crafts and Arts Exhibit will be on display in the Karen Kuznek-Reese Gallery at the Sequim Civic Center, located at 152 W. Cedar St., through Thursday, April 27.

An artist reception is set for 5-6 p.m. on Friday, April 14.

The gallery is open 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The City Arts Advisory Committee (CAAC) invited high school students across the Olympic Peninsula to submit entries for the exhibit. 22 entries were selected from 20 students, who attend Sequim, Quilcene and Crescent high schools, and submitted art for the exhibit.

Awards were given to four students. First place was awarded to Jaxon Taylor, an 11th-grader at Quilcene High School for his mixed metals sculpture, “Owner of a Lonely Heart.” Second place was awarded to Anna Munn a 10th-grader at Quilcene High School for her mixed media sculpture, “Jell Squad.” Claudia Wilcox a 12th-grader at Quilcene High School and Kristian Escano an 11th-grader at Quilcene High School tied for third — Wilcox, for her acrylic painting, “Here With Me (Billie),” and Escano for his acrylic and mixed media painting on canvas, “City of Dreams.”
