Clallam Conservation District Executive Director Joe Holtrop will present tips for minimizing lawn management on the North Olympic Peninsula at noon Thursday, April 13, in the county commissioners meeting room of the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
Holtrop said that lawns are often the most resource demanding elements of a landscape and his presentation will help home gardeners reduce maintenance and have more sustainable landscapes.
He will talk about the pros and cons of traditional turf lawns and make recommendations about native and non-native alternative groundcovers.
Holtrop has an undergraduate and master’s degree in landscape architecture and a master’s degree in adult education. He has been giving presentations, leading workshops and teaching courses on sustainable landscaping for 25 years.
This presentation is part of the “Green Thumb Garden Tips” education series sponsored by the WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners on the second and fourth Thursdays of every month in Port Angeles.
Attendees may bring a lunch. “Green Thumb Garden Tips” presentations are free and open to the public. However, donations to help offset copying costs for handouts are accepted. Call 565-2679.
