Keep up on changes in gardening, for the gardener

Learn how to garden in a healthier way as our climate grows warmer and our bodies age by joining northwest horticulture expert Marianne Binetti for the Green Thumb Education Series Zoom presentation “The Changing Garden and the Changing Gardener: How to Adapt.”

Her presentation is set for noon-1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22, on Zoom. Join by clicking on the link at extension.wsu.edu/clallam (meeting ID 936 2989 8830, passcode 676224), or join by phone at 253-215-8782.

Binetti will share growing tips like how to protect plants during a heat wave and how to use those that are more drought resistant. She’ll delve into how to use the proper tools for the job and appropriate body mechanics to avoid injury while gardening. She will also have some fun ideas to add whimsy and joy to your outdoor space.

Binetti has a degree in Horticulture from Washington State University, has written or co-written 10 garden books, continues to write a syndicated weekly garden column that runs in several newspapers, including the Daily Olympian and Tacoma News Tribune, has appeared on HGTV, and hosted radio and television programs.

This February she will return to the Northwest Flower and Garden Show in Seattle as emcee for the popular “Container Wars” competition every day of the show. She and her husband Joe lead garden tours around the world.

This May she invites gardeners to join her to experience the Islands of New England tour. Visit her website at binettigarden.com for more information.

The Green Thumb Education Series, sponsored by the Washington State University Clallam County Master Gardeners, is held on the second and fourth Thursday of each month through October. In November, December, and January, one lecture is offered.
