League of Women Voters to screen ‘Iron Jawed Angels’

In celebration of Women’s History Month, the League of Women Voters of Clallam County will screen “Iron Jawed Angels” at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, March 19, at Olympic Theatre Arts Gathering Hall, 414 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim.

The award-winning HBO docudrama stars Academy Award winners Hilary Swank and Anjelica Huston and tells the story of the harrowing struggles women endured to secure the right to vote.

“We sometimes take for granted the right to vote, forgetting what it cost the suffragettes for the privilege,” said Lounette Templeton, League of Women Voters president. “After seeing ‘Iron Jawed Angels,’ I doubt any woman or man will ever pass up an opportunity to vote.”

Rebecca Redshaw, film critic and author, introduces the film. Gourmet desserts, “Prohibition Punch” and coffee will be served prior to the screening.

The movie begins at 7 p.m., followed by a brief discussion of the film and the right to vote.

Suggested donation is $10 ($12 at the door, if available). Advance ticket donations may be purchased at Pacific Mist Books, 121 W. Washington St., Sequim, and Port Book & News, 104 E. First St., Port Angeles.

“Iron Jawed Angels” is recommended for mature teens and adults. For more information, call 477-1513.
