Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society’s Backyard Birding programs continue in May on the topic of “Gulls and Shorebirds,” presented by Bob Boekelheide from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, May 6, in the Rainshadow Hall at the Dungeness River Nature Center, 1943 W. Hendrickson Road.
In his talk, Boekelheide will explain his frequently repeated mantra: “There is no species named Seagull.” Attendees are invited to learn how to identify over a dozen species of gulls and gull-like birds — and the multitude of their shorebird associates — that either make the Olympic Peninsula their home, or that visit us in their migration, or that breed here.
Enjoy a program richly illustrated with regional photographs. Questions and comments are welcomed.
After the class, Boekelheide will lead a short field trip to a local shoreline.
Admission to the series is free; however, organizers suggest a donation of $5 per person to support ongoing education and bird conservation programs.
Note: current COVID-19 health precautions as recommended by Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe and Clallam County Public Health will be followed for the protection of our attendees and volunteer staff.
