Often the culprit of destroying otherwise good mustard greens, kale, broccoli and more, flea beetles have a healthy appetite for treasures in our gardens, gardening experts note.
Find out how to handle these creatures at “Flea Beetles,” the next Green Thumb Education Series presentation set for noon on Thursday, April 25, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 510 E. Park Ave., Port Angeles.
Laurel Moulton, WSU Clallam County Extension Regional Horticulture Specialist, will help attendees learn all about these garden insects, including how to identify them, what kind of damage to look for and how to manage them.
Gardeners who attend this lecture will come away with knowledge and skills to use Integrated Pest Management techniques to prevent or minimize damage to their vegetable crops using a methods that are the least harmful to the environment and other organisms.

She is a member of the WSU Extension Integrated Pest Management Team and spends her time outside of Master Gardeners helping small farms in Clallam, Jefferson and Kitsap counties to accurately identify pests and crop diseases while developing plans to manage them sustainably.
Sponsored by WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners, the Green Thumbs Garden Tips education series is offered on the second and fourth Thursday each month through October (in November, December and January, one program is offered). Scheduled presentations are subject to change. Visit the WSU Extension Clallam County website calendar (extension.wsu.edu/clallam) for the latest information on upcoming presentations.
