Starting Saturday, Oct. 17, the popular Kids Create Art program series returns to the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

These fun, introductory art classes are from 10-11:30 a.m. every third Saturday of the month, October-May. This program is supported by the Friends of Sequim Library.

Led by local artists, each Kids Create Art session — recommended for ages 7 to 12 — offers children an opportunity to explore various artistic media. All classes in the series are free but with class sizes are limited to 20 attendees, so preregistration is required.

To register, visit the Sequim Library events calendar at www.nols.org, call 683-1161 or send an e-mail to youth@nols.org. All materials will be provided.

Fall classes

• The Oct. 17 session, “Pastels and Pumpkins,” is led by artist Carrie Rodlend. She has worked with youths of all ages for many years in the Sequim elementary schools, at the Olympic Peninsula Academy and in her own studio. Her joy is sharing the world through an artist’s eye and teaching the process of drawing or painting in fun, easy steps.

• On Nov. 21, Eva Kozun offers young artists an opportunity to celebrate World Hello Day with a sunflower painting project. As sunflowers are a symbol of peace and World Hello Day focuses on communicating peace and friendship, each participant will paint a sunflower to take home as well as one for the “garden” display in the library’s children’s area, creating pieces for themselves and for their library community to enjoy.

• Rodlend returns for the Dec. 19 session, “Winter Solstice Sun and Shadows.” With this session, Rodlend promises to work with lots of math, tempera paint, shapes and shadows.
