Master Gardeners talk explores medicinal herbs

Patricia Star-Bowen will talk about 23 medicinal herbs that thrive in the Pacific Northwest at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 2, at the Clallam County Master Gardeners Woodcock Demonstration Garden at 2711 Woodcock Road.

The free talk includes a handout with the plant names and uses, along with a list of what part to harvest and when. Star-Bowen also will lead a tour of the medicinal herb beds to demonstrate how to care for and harvest the plants.

A Master Gardener for eight years, Star-Bowen has tended and added to the demonstration garden?s medicinal herb beds for the past two years. She has studied herbs for 18 years, with eight years? membership in The Wise Woman Herbal Guild. She owns Montevista Medicinal Herb Farm in Port Angeles.

A free plant clinic follows the presentation from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. People with plant problems are asked to bring in bagged samples of healthy and damaged areas of plants, including stem, leaves, flowers, fruits or cones and living specimens of pests.
