Fall and winter berry care, critical for good fruit production, is the topic for the next 2024 Master Gardener Digging Deeper Saturdays series event.

Join veteran Master Gardener Jeanette Stehr-Green from 10:30 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Clallam County Master Gardener Woodcock Demonstration Garden, 2711 Woodcock Road, to learn about steps you should take now to ensure a good berry harvest next year.

Stehr-Green will cover the care that is needed by cultivated berries — strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries— in fall and winter. She will discuss how to prune and trellis your raspberries and blackberries and how to prune your blueberry bushes.

She will talk about when a strawberry planting needs to be replaced. She will also discuss common winter problems that occur with each major berry type and how to deal with them.

Stehr-Green is a berry enthusiast and has been a Clallam County Master Gardener since 2003. She has grown berries on the North Olympic Peninsula for over 20 years and enjoys teaching others how to improve the quality and size of their berry harvest

The session is free, open to the public and held outdoors, rain or shine, under the covered pavilion at the Woodcock Demonstration Garden.

In addition to the scheduled presentation, a team of Clallam County Master Gardeners will be available from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. to answer other gardening questions.
