Milestone: Rutz receives OMC’s BEE award

Jessica Rutz, Olympic Medical Heart Center’s office supervisor, was recently presented with an OMC BEE (Being Excellent Every Day) award.

The award, established by OMC and a companion to the DAISY Award given to nursing staff, recognizes non-nurse staff members, both clinical and non-clinical, who exceed expectation in service excellence every day.

“Jessica Rutz is an indispensable member of the Heart Center Leadership Team. She has kept patients and their care as her priority during an extended period of staffing shortages and limited resources,” heart center director Leonard Anderson said.

“Her willingness to take on additional duties, help with improving the patient experience, and supporting staff should be recognized. Jessica’s default outlook when faced with a challenge is ‘What is best for the patient?’ closely followed by ‘How can I help?’”

Rutz was recognized for her dedication to patients and the community through her expert customer service skills, width of knowledge and positive attitude.

A colleague nominated Rutz for the BEE award, writing: “Jessica has and is the front line of our department and often goes unrecognized. During our staff shortage in the last few months, she has fulfilled her own job and responsibilities as well as other roles throughout the department.

“Her customer service skills along with her extensive knowledge have kept our patient flow consistent and steady. She fills ten different pairs of shoes, all while keeping a positive attitude, taking the time to mentor other staff members and train new ones.

“Her dedication to our department is simply because she cares – cares about our patients and community. Thank you, Jessica!”

Olympic Medical staff may be nominated for the BEE Award by patients, families and colleagues.

Each honoree receives a certificate commending her or him on “Being Excellent Every Day.” The certificate reads: “With deep appreciation for being excellent at what you do, for going above and beyond and making a difference for those around you every day.”

Honorees also receive a BEE Award pin and a gift bag containing a jar of local honey.

A cross-functional committee of healthcare workers review the nominations and select the final nominee.
