NOLS hosting Pride Month events

The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) is offering programs and resources for people to celebrate LGBTQIA+ Pride Month.

Held each year in June, Pride Month commemorates the 1969 Stonewall Uprising and to uplift voices of the LGBTQIA+ community. June is also recognized as Rainbow Book Month, an initiative of the American Library Association that fosters community, understanding and access to LGBTQIA+ literature.

Pride Family Dance Party

Community members are invited to wear their most colorful clothing or a costume and dance and craft at the library to celebrate Pride Month, at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 7, at the Sequim Library temporary location (609 W. Washington St.) and 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 11 , at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

Rainbow Reads for Teens

Teens can sample books at a “book tasting” event to find LGBTQIA+ stories and authors in all genres at a Rainbow Reads event set for 3:30 p.m. Thursday, June 6, at Hurricane Coffee Company, 104 W. Washington St.

Rainbow Book Month

Find a great LGBTQIA+ read for free with a library card. Visit any NOLS branch, browse the catalog at nols.org, or ask a staff member for assistance finding fiction and nonfiction books with LGBTQIA+ narratives and experiences. Digital formats are available through the catalog and on the Libby and Hoopla apps.

Library programs are supported by local Friends of the Library groups.
