Local nonprofits came together for an old-fashioned chili cookoff on Feb. 15 at the Sequim Boys and Girls Club.
Six groups sought to win over judges for a chance to win hundreds of dollars for making the top chili at the annual Community Chili Cookoff.
Sequim Food Bank won first place and $500 with a chili made by June Nicholas, volunteer coordinator.
Second place and $300 went to the Clallam County Junior Livestock Auction for a chili made by parent volunteer Natalie Anderson, while third place and $100 went to Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County for its chili made by volunteer Jim Long.
Other participating nonprofits included Boy Scout Troop 90, the Boys & Girls Club of the Olympic Peninsula and Lincoln Park BMX.
Organizers said the event was a success with plans to bring it back again next year.
Each organization received a portion of the proceeds. Ticket purchases provided attendees with five tastings and a bowl of chili, bread and a drink.
The event was organized by Troop 90 and the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula with many local businesses sponsoring the event.
