The Olympic Educational Service District 114, serving Kitsap, Jefferson, Clallam and parts of Mason counties, announced last week the opening of a school to help serve certain students in special education programs.
Developed in a partnership with Chancelight Behavioral Health and Education Company, Northwater is a day program to for students whose special education Individualized Educational Programming teams have determined they require “more intensive academic, behavioral and social-emotional supports,” OESD representatives said.
School representatives said two years of study and collaboration with regional district partners led to the opening of Northwater, which will initially serve 32 students and operate out of the former Breidablik Elementary School in Poulsbo, and will be supported by the local school districts who refer students to the program.
“The study results revealed that some students with the most complex needs require a more restrictive setting to achieve their educational goals,” OESD representatives said in a press release last week.
They said Chancelight has developed and successfully operated 104 programs in cooperation with 240 districts in 15 states.
Northwater will be located at the former Breidablik Elementary School in Poulsbo, WA. It will serve 32 students from across the OESD 114 region and will be supported by the local school districts who refer students to the program.
