Off the Shelf: Water, water everywhere

The Sequim Library will take part in Sequim Irrigation Festival events on the first two weekends in May.

This Saturday, visit the North Olympic Library System booth during Family Fun Day at Carrie Blake Community Park from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The following weekend, the NOLS Bookmobile will be rolling along in the Grand Parade on Saturday, May 11.

Enhance your own celebration of water with some water-themed albums from the library’s music CD collection. Consider diving into these titles, available for checkout:

“Water Made Us” by Jamila Woods

“On her expansive new album, the Chicago musician and poet shines anew as she asks the question: What does it mean to fully surrender into love? Jamila embraces new genres, playful melodies, and hypnotizing wordplay, as she wades through the exhilarating tumult of love’s wreckage and refuge.” — From the publisher.

“The Land, the Water, the Sky” by Black Belt Eagle Scout

“When the land calls, you listen. Katherine Paul found herself far from her ancestral lands during a time of collective trauma, when the world was wounded and in need of healing. In 2020 she made the journey from Portland back to the Skagit River. The songs remind us that if we slow down, if we listen to the waves and the wind through the trees, we will remember to breathe.” — From the publisher

“Water” by Dehd

O”n their third release, Dehd scrape away 90 percent of what goes into your average good-sounding guitar album — studio enhancement, stacked parts, precision playing, any cymbal crashes whatsoever — and leave it almost entirely up to their countermelodies and strong lyrical turns to carry the load.” — From the publisher

“Water for Life” by various artists for Wells for Zoë

“Wells for Zoë assembled a top-notch collection of Celtic and Folk musicians for the purpose of aiding the local population of Northern Malawi in accessing fresh water and creating a sustainable living environment. Includes tracks from Sinead O’Connor, Karine Polwart, Paul Brady, and more.” — From the publisher

“Ocean to Ocean” by Tori Amos

“The artist emerges with her most personal work in years, an album bursting with warmth and connection, with deep roots in her earliest songwriting. Written during the third lockdown in Cornwall, the album is a universal story of going to rock bottom and renewing yourself all over again.” – From the publisher

“The Waterfall II” by My Morning Jacket

“This is the eighth studio album by the American rock band. Made up of recordings made in 2013 that also produced the 2015 release ‘The Waterfall,’ this psychedelic pop work has received positive reviews from critics.” – From the publisher
