Clallam Bay artist Lora Malakoff is the featured artist at the general meeting of the Olympic Peninsula Art Association, set for 9:30 a.m. Thursday, June 23, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Parish Hall, 525 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim.

The June summer kickoff potluck meeting and presentation is free and open to the public. There will be no meetings during July and August.

Malakoff started painting in watercolors at a young age under the guidance of an artist in Wrangell, Alaska. Soon she had moved on to acrylics and by the time she was 14 she was in love with oil painting and still is to this day.

After nearly a decade of study in many mediums, including sculpture and ceramics, she moved to Washington in her early 20s, pursuing a career in graphic design.

She attended the Art Institute of Seattle majoring in visual communications, where she began her journey with graphic design and marketing.

Today Malakoff owns and publishes the Seniors Sunset Times, a Washington Coast newspaper. Malakoff is a member of the Olympic Peninsula Artists Association and board director at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center.
