Hideko Kano Goecker is the artist of the month at the Waterfront Gallery

Hideko Kano Goecker is the artist of the month at the Waterfront Gallery, at 120 W. First St., Port Angeles.

Goecker was born and grew up in Chiba-ken, Japan, near Tokyo. She received an associate’s degree from Sacramento City College in 1973 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in art, with honors, from California State University, Sacramento, in 1975.

She studied Japanese ink brush painting (sumi-e) under Master Ito in Tokyo for three years and Chinese ink brush painting under Lillian Seto in Sacramento for nearly 10 years,

Goecker paints in a relaxed and free style and says she enjoys subjects such as flowers, fish, birds and insects.

From Sacramento

She had several one-person shows in Sacramento before moving to Port Angeles with her husband in 1994.

Since coming to Port Angeles, Goecker has had her paintings exhibited in the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center, Sequim Museum and Arts Center, the Olympic Natural Resources Center at Forks, the Clallam County Fair and at several local galleries. She has participated in many juried art shows on the peninsula and has won numerous awards including "Best Floral Painting," "Best Animal Painting," "Best of Show" and a "Judge’s Choice" award.
