Olympic Theatre Arts opens its first Children’s Theatre production, “Alice in Zombieland,” written by Craig Sodaro on Friday, Aug. 7.

Directed by Danny Willis and Bonne Smith, the play is about Alice, who is now a teen returning to Wonderland only to find all of the characters have been turned into zombies by the Wicked Witch of the West from Oz.

The story offers a very creative mixing of elements from two classic stories and some comedic stage action from a host of zombies.

Willis has been involved with children’s theater groups since age 8.

“I have always had such fun working in theater and I really wanted to share that with these children,” Willis said.

“We have a cast of 25 from ages 7 to 16 and they are the best. They listen, they give creative input and they laugh, we all laugh a lot — it’s a comedy, you know!”

Smith has a special affinity for the zombies. She, Kaylee Ditlefsen and some helpful parents are creating costumes and special effects to bring the show to life.

“Everyone wants to be a zombie, don’t they?” Smith said.

All shows are performed on the Main Stage at Olympic Theatre Arts Center, 414 N. Sequim Ave.

The three show dates are Aug. 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Aug. 9 at 2 p.m.

Reserved tickets are available online at www.olympictheatrearts.org or at the theatre box office, which is open 1–5 p.m., Monday-Friday.
