Olympic Theatre Arts in Sequim is launching a new Children’s Theatre Workshop series beginning in December.

The first OTA workshop in the series is “Auditioning Skills,” preceding the arrival of the Missoula Children’s Theatre Tour the following week — also sponsored by OTA.

The one-week workshop is open to children ages 8–18 and focuses on building self-confidence and developing performance readiness skills. Workshop instructors/directors are OTA veterans Bonne Smith and Lee Harwell, with classroom assistance by Danny Willis.

“Our goal is to empower children by identifying and building on their strengths and also to introduce them to aspects of theater production that may be new to them,” Smith, the workshop’s lead director, said. “We plan to explore performing arts through theater games and instructional activities while building skills to enable the participants to present a polished monologue to an audience at week’s end.”

The OTA Children’s Auditioning Skills Workshop is scheduled to run 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on weekdays, Dec. 2-Jan. 3, and 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Jan. 3, for a monologue presentation to invited guests.

Tuition for the workshop is $150. Lunch and snacks will be provided. The workshop is at the Olympic Theatre Arts Center, 414 N. Sequim Ave. Enrollment is limited.
