Port Angeles Community Players will hold tryouts for “Love Rides The Rails Or Will The Mail Train Run Tonight” by Morland Cary at 7 p.m. Tuesday June 23.
There are speaking roles for five women and seven men, plus extras.
The old-fashioned melodrama features villains who are booed and heroes who are cheered. Roles include Mrs. Hopewell, the widow; Prudence, her daughter; Simon Darkway, the villain; Truman Pendennis, the hero; Harold Stanfast, his friend; Dirk Sneath, a hireling of Darkway; Carlotta Cortez, owner of the local café; Fifi, Carlotta’s maid; Fred Wheelwright, railroad engineer; Dan, bartender; Beulah, dance hall hostess; and the Police Officer.
There also are roles for extras as railroad workers and patrons of the Paradise Café.
Some singing may be added if actors also can sing, but it is not required.
“Love Rides The Rails” will be on stage Sept. 18-Oct. 14 on Friday, Saturday and Tuesday nights and Sunday afternoons. Rehearsals will begin in August.
The tryouts are at the Port Angeles Community Playhouse, 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd., and will consist of reading from the playbook. Prepared audition pieces are not required.
Copies of the play are available for reading at the Port Angeles and Sequim libraries. If you would like to try out but cannot attend tryouts, contact director Barbara Frederick 452-2998.
