Port Angeles Symphony Chamber Orchestra presents conductor candidate Wesley Schulz in concert at 7 p.m. Friday, May 8, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 S. Lopez Ave., Port Angeles; and Saturday, May 9, at the Sequim Worship Center, 640 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim.
Schulz is the newly appointed Conducting Fellow at the Seattle Symphony and is the music director of the Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Festival Orchestra and the Bainbridge Island Youth Orchestra.
A passionate teacher as well as conductor, Schulz is deeply committed to working with young musicians. He was appointed to the faculty of the Seattle Conservatory of Music and teaches conducting and score study to some of the most talented musicians in the Pacific Northwest.
Schulz graduated magna cum laude with bachelor’s degrees in percussion performance and music education from Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., and doctorate and master’s degrees in orchestral conducting from the University of Texas at Austin.
Featured trio
The concert features a guest trio of Anne Krabill, oboist; David Krabill, bassoonist; and Kristin Quigley Brye, pianist.
Anne Krabill holds the title of principal oboe of the Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra, the Port Angeles Chamber Orchestra and the Port Townsend Community Orchestra. In addition she has performed as principal oboe with the Northwest Symphony in Seattle, the Bainbridge Symphony, the Peninsula Dance Theater in Bremerton, the Sooke Philharmonic in British Columbia and was a guest performer with the 82nd Airborne Division Band in North Carolina.
David Krabill is co-principal bassoonist with the Port Angeles Symphony and the Port Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and principal bassoonist with the Port Townsend Community Orchestra.
Originally from Ohio, he studied at Kent State University and had further studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He spent several summers at the Blossom Festival of Music studying with members of the Cleveland Orchestra. Along with his wife, Anne, he was a member of the East Coast Woodwind Trio and the Scotia Winds quintet, and taught bassoon and chamber music at Dalhousie University.
Kristin Quigley Brye holds degrees in horn and collaborative piano/vocal coaching from Pacific Lutheran University and North Carolina School of the Arts. She is a former faculty member of the University of Alaska-Anchorage and Pacific Lutheran University, where she was co-director of the Opera Workshop program. She presently is an adjunct professor of piano at Peninsula College, maintains an active private studio, and is the collaborative pianist with NorthWest Women’s Chorale.
